Meet Julie Montgomery

It’s been a year since we began working remotely due to Covid-19, which makes these employee spotlights even more helpful in getting to know our fantastic employees! This week, we sat down with Technical Recruiter Julie Montgomery.

Marketing: Hi, Julie! Thanks for taking the time to let us learn a bit more about you. First, how long have you worked at EveryIT? What does your position entail?

Julie: I started in September of 2019, so just about a year and a half. I work with our management teams to find great people for their teams. This involves direct candidate sourcing and managing candidates through our interview process.

Marketing: What do you enjoy most about your job?

Julie: I love the rush of finding a great, energetic, passionate candidate who fits our team’s needs. It’s like being a matchmaker in the olden days, I suppose.

Marketing: That’s true! What is the best career lesson you’ve learned so far?

Julie: You can’t push the river. Sometimes things must simmer to work themselves out, and you can’t control it all. The trick is to run in the same direction as the river.

Marketing: That’s an excellent lesson and sound advice for anyone. So, what would you do for a career if you weren’t in recruiting?

Julie: If I were infinitely wealthy, I’d build and run a theatre. I meet the most extraordinary people in the theatre. However, if I were NOT infinitely rich, I’d be a podcaster or a sports agent. Or I’d be a podcaster about sports agents.

Marketing: Is it safe to assume you enjoy the theatre in your time away from work?

Julie: Yes! I am on the board of directors for our community theatre. So, I do jobs for artists and bring the arts to suburban audiences and children. Although I’m very involved in producing and casting the shows, I’m also a costumer. Check out pictures of my favorite show I costumed here! This is Mama Mia.

Marketing: Oh, how cool! What a fun thing to be involved in within the community. What is another fun-fact that people might not know?

Julie: I spent nine years in marketing during the rise of content marketing. I love creating content that helps the reader “make a decision” of some kind.

Marketing: Ah, well, now we know who to go to for an article or two on our blog! Okay, so what is your favorite place in the world?

Julie:Carmel, California. I love the vibe. Not sure I’d want to live there, but I love the feel of the cottage homes and the beautiful ocean views. 17 Mile Drive has the power to take me to another universe.

Marketing: What is your motto or personal mantra?

Julie: When I’m working on the theatre board, the motto that people hear me say the most is, “When somebody is trying to pay you, take that money from them as easily and painlessly as possible.” NOT because I’m trying to take people’s money, but because when people decide to donate to a non-profit, you must strike while the iron is hot! On a more personal side, my favorite quote sums it up. “Dance like nobody’s watching; love like you’ve never been hurt. Sing like nobody’s listening; live like it’s heaven on earth.” – Mark Twain. I spent a lot of my early life worried about what other people think. I gave that up. I barely have time for the people I love.

Marketing: Those are both valuable things to remember. Speaking of valuable, what is one thing you can’t live without?

Julie: Well, I could say my husband and family, but I’m going to assume you are looking for something more interesting than that. So, besides that – I’ll say PURPOSE. If you have no purpose in life, you grow old and aimless. I have a purpose, and it makes me more vibrant than I would be otherwise. And it keeps me learning and growing, which is the root of youth.

Marketing: Thank you so much for a great interview! I know our readers will enjoy learning more about you!
